TICHY TRAIN GROUP KITS 

Most Tichy cars are available in economical multi-packs and with or without decals. These exquisitely detailed styrene kits require some model building experience so the ORE CAR (shown later on this page) is a suggested learning kit. Their WRECK CRANE (also shown later) is considered by many to be the finest styrene kit ever produced.

Tichy freight cars include trucks. Their Illustrated parts catalog is free on request with your order or $1 P&H (by mail please-no credit cards). (The newest windows etc are not yet in their catalog). For the available variations and prices of these Tichy kits, check out our website catalog. (Decorated War Emergency gons and GSC 53' flat kits listed in our stock are not currently produced, thus not illustrated below). 


HANDCARS
 

TANK CARS --USRA standard (10,000 gal, 36' ) ran from 1918-55. Two dome sizes available. 


40' FLAT CAR ACF (1926--) is also available with wheel load. 

BOOM CAR-Similar MofW cars served to carry tools and ran next to the big hook to accommodate the boom.  
 

PFE REEFER 40' wood reefers of this style (class R-46-4) were prolific from 1928 through the 60s. Kit also can build classes RR-40-2, R-30-9, R-30-13 and WP reefers. 

CEMENT CAR. Before the covered hopper, boxcars carried bulk flour and cement. Often they were adapted with in-floor hoppers and roof hatches. This is a USRA boxcar as adapted for cement service by D&H and B&O. 

USRA 40' WOOD BOXCARS were prolific, often rebuilt-and widely copied. Tichy supplies a Canadian clone, rebuild versions (many even received steel sides in later life) and the originals. 

USRA 50T HOPPER was THE most common car for the most universal fuel for generations. Tichy's kit is as highly detailed as you'd expect from their heritage. 


PANEL HOPPER The USRA 50T Hoppers were often rebuilt with "panel sides" when coal's chemicals and rough service rusted their original sides. These pressed steel sides increased capacity and were common from the 1930s-70s on many roads. Some were sold (by the Wabash we believe) to the Anderson grain firm near the Toledo, Ohio, docks. Tichy also supplies the Anderson version with topper molding. 


WAR EMERGENCY 52' GONDOLAs began life in 1943 and were running into the 1960s. . Built to conserve steel when rails were the key to victory, this unique car is a winner


LOW SIDE GONDOLA Some folks call them flats and they can still be found despite their 1916 build dates. 


40' PULPWOOD FLAT CARs were commonplace in the woods, south and north. They carried pulpwood to the paper mills (with yjeir characteristic bulkheads and sloped floors) from the 1940s through the 1980s. 


STUMP CAR-the ACL added steel sides to pulpwood cars in the 80s and uses them to transport stumps to chemical processing plants.
