This brass kit is designed to utilize
the Bowser HO PCC mechanism. It
may Be assembled using modern
glues or By soldering. Avoid fingerprinting the highly detailed, double
etched brass. Add headlight, bell,
horn and other details of your
choice to match your prototype-
from over 60 railroads. Brill and Service Motor radiators are
Supplied with the kit.
Brill was a leading manufacturer of electric Interurbans and
streetcars in Philadelphia.Pa Following World War I, small firms across the USA began making gasoline powered trucks and cars. One of these was Service Motor Truck Co. of Wabash, Ind. Service, like many others subcontracted their carbody construction to Brill. Service's design became so popular that Brill purchased the firm, becaming the leader in rail motorcars. Larger cars came later, but Model 55 dominated the field until the famous RDC car. They found second and third homes over the years, including Sperry. Railroads that purchased model 55 new Were: United Rwy (Cuba), Frankfort & CincInnati, Middleton & Union, WP, Consolidated (Cuba), LEF&C, Erie, Asherton & Gulf, NdeM, Missouri Southern, Punxsutawney Coal, B&M,W Jersey & Seashore, Missouri Pacific, NC&StL,Wichita Falls& Southern, Port Lisbon & Western,Skagit Rwy, SA Uvaldo & Gulf, Chicago,Springfield & St Louis,Long Island, Atlantic & Western, Gulf Texas&W, Sewell Valley,South Africa Rwy,Unandilla Valley, Jefferson & SW, GM&N, Intrnl & Great Northern, South Australia, Lehigh Valley,Cambria & Indiana, Abilene & S, Tenn Alabama&Georgia, Greenwich & Johnsonville, Western Union,Ft Smith Subraco &Rock Island, Erie, Pennsylvania, Canadian National, CGW,Seaboard, Frisco, Great Northern, Maine Central,Fonda Johnstown&Gloverville, Knox&Carolina,Oneida&Western, C&O, Missouri &Arkansas, St L & SW,Hartford Eastern, Louisiana & Arkansas, Big Four,Argentina Southern, Uruguayan, New Orleans& Great Northern, Clinton& Oklahoma Western, Lehigh Valley. Like a phone book, many unfamiliar names mixed with the most familiar. |

LTD LTD
kits are primarily designed utilizing double etched brass (or nickel silver)
components. The
initial production run is scheduled when firm reservations reach a
sufficient level to cover the production tooling costs. When reservations
warrant, reruns are made from time to time in smaller quantities (and
re-priced according to current prevailing costs).
LTD models are produced to fulfill firm advanced orders. Limited
over-runs occur (kit components are gang run on large metal sheets) -thus
some items are sometimes "in
stock".
Over run stock kits are listed
here as "now available."
Items subject to rerun are listed as "reserve for rerun." Your phone/mail
order will not be charged until actual shipment.
Items awaiting initial run (the wait is months after we complete the tooling
here) may still be reserved until our initial quantity is set-- if noted "in
que."
Your phone/mail order credit card will not be charged until actual
shipment.
Items still requiring reservations to justify proceeding with
tooling preparation are listed farther down this page and on the
INTERURBAN page. Their reservations may be placed by phone or mail ALL MODELS ARE HO UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.Updated March 2010 |

There are four steps in development of LTD Series Products.
Please read this so you can understand the following
tables and the difficulty answering that frequent question "When?"
ENABLE: Adequate plans and photos must be gathered before we can begin. Our product designer must then determine whether a kit or part can be made and draw sketches of each part, how it fits, how it can be made. The designer then assigns a product ID (sku number) to the project and we announce that we will make it –IF enough reservations are received to justify the allocation of resources.
ENGINEER When adequate reservations trigger a "Start" our designer works closely with CAD skilled model railroaders to develop drawing for molds or decals. In the case of photo etch parts the CAD work requires a special skill because etching removes materials both through the material and "sideways." Windows and holes get bigger, parts and rivets get smaller (and show up at different locations). Both sides of the material must be considered as fold lines, dimples etc are placed on the inside. We design these in HO so that scale change can be done at reasonable cost. Drawings for assembly are done to confirm part fit and prepare instructions.
TOOL Since we make specialty products that will not sell thousands of models, more reservations are needed to get to this stage. Here our CAD work is sent to be used cutting solid metal casting molds or prepared as digital photo etch "negatives." Our molds typically have two figures in front of the comma. Negatives usually have a comma in the up-front price tag as well. The professional firms involved in this work have hourly rates with 3 digits ahead of the dot. Any misstep can cost dearly so we work closely with these (non-modeler) folks. In our LTD Series, we have a "que" (waiting line) of products with completed CAD waiting for this stage. Reservations for new items (or another scale on completed HO items) often "shuffle the order" of this waiting line-they are VERY important. We cannot predict the time that it will take for an item to move on because the line is being shuffled and it is being financed as noted in the next step.
PRODUCE At last the tools are actually making something. Our LTD production is tailored to the reservation level. Our SIGNATURE Series kits require production of 500-1000 units minimum at the outset. It’s time here to build the first model so we can photograph it and place advertisements. Product packaging and shipping follow, hopefully. If this one sells well enough, it assures financing for the next project and reruns.

They’re ready for final tooling step. Sides intended for IHC smoothside
conversions: #772-75-1 observation; #772-75-3 Dome and
