MofW and special use cars previously mentioned are in files for BAR ; B&M, EL (Erie, DL&W) ; NYC, B&O

A New Haven express car is seen in D&H Albany-Montreal train in Mark I Video "Memories of The Delaware & Hudson Vol I"

Other roads for which photos are available (JL):  Allied Chemical, Morrison Knudson

Considering the headend car use of NH we'd expect to find some there too.

MID ATLANTIC roads for which we've previously listed MofW and specialty cars: B&O, C&O, N&W (NS); NYC; Morrison Knudson, Allied Chemical.

Additionally, Western Maryland had camp cars, sleeping cars, kitchen cars, crew cars (JL) and we've posted the diagram for converting a sleeper to a, well a kitchen car. They had at least one caboose too.

trp42 SOUTHEASTERN STATES                      Top of Page

There's plenty of evidence for REA cars carrying the car types southeast, but no one south of N&W, B&O and C&O used them in their own express service--thus few would be expected in MofW service.  MISSISSIPPI EXPORT had at least a caboose (JL) and Illinois Central camp cars (JL)

WAB also had yellow troop conversions.  After N&W merger they were green.

EJ&E tool car pictured is preserved at Griffith (IN) historical society.

T&P bunk cars X2622, X2627 (ex emergency cabooses) are shown P217,218 CABOOSES ON THE MISSOURI PACIFIC by G J Michels.

An EJ&E tool car has been preserved at the Griffith IN Historical Society.  You can link to Greg Adams' photo from MIDWESTERN.

Wabash MofW bunk cars in Heimburger's WABASH book are dark with white lettering.  My own slides & memory have them boxcar red.  Dick Yager remembers some green ones and others remember yellow though I've not come up with photos on those. One of these red cars at the local depot for a couple of years is responsible for this whole project.  Merle Rice.

trp44 GRANGER ROADS                                    Top of Page

GRANGER ROADS are different from mid-western in the thinking of some folks. West of the Miss R in the MW-- They're all listed there:  Wabash, T&P, MoPac, Rock Island, M&StL, D&RGW, StLSW, MKT, IC, C&NW, CB&Q, C&S, FtW&D,  please see MIDWESTERN.  It's getting late to hit all those buttons again.

trp45 SOUTHWESTERN ROADS                       Top of Page

Well, the StL SW, Rock Island, Burlington, C&S, FtW &D, MKT, BN, D&RGW listed in dynamometer), KCS, MoPac, T&P and Wabash have been discussed already under MIDWESTERN so please go there--even if you don't think these are mid-western roads.  Lets add:

Nevada Northern work car (JL)

MORRISON KNUDSON camp car (JL)

AMTRAK ex troop kitchen cars!!! in 1300 series (#1301-1379) with 1376,1379 running in California service. Railway Passenger Car Annual Vol VI (1984) indicates they were built in 19533 by St Louis Car as USAX kitchen cars. The 1988 Passenger Train Annual lists them as ex USArmy #89605-89687 and has a small picture of the Amtrak car.  by Joe Wade
Researching the WWII Troop cars was a multi-year challenge before cataloged sources, fan awareness and RR historical societies were around to help shuffle the pieces. We did run across reference to Korean War troop cars built right after the government advertised 2290 troop cars for sale. The Amtrak cars are a tip of this iceberg We suspect there are other roads' "strange express cars" in this story as well.
And, like Pennsy fans, Santa Fe, UP, SP etc will have to run REA cars. One published photo of a NYC express car was taken in Kansas City so check out the run-through likelyhood for your road Enough folks have mentioned cars still around out there we think there were MofW which are under our radar. Gene Green saw SSW MOW#95070 (ex sleeper-ex CRI&P) at Hutchison KS 6/21/96. Others, on seeing the model say-- oh yes, there's one sitting at the ---pass or ---siding. Help?

trp47 CANADIAN and MEXICAN                     Top of Page

Previously mentioned roads are: ON; PGE (BC); and Algoma Central

GTW is listed under mid-western which suggests the possibility of CNR MofW cars.

JL lists a photo of FERROCARRIL SONORA BAJA CALIFORNIA camp cars. We have heard scattered, vague, references to other Mexican appearances.
